Each year, Moms Like Me brings together storytellers, our mom band, parents, parents-to-be, and local perinatal professionals, offering those in attendance a sense of hope, an understanding that they are not alone, and a reminder that no stage is permanent.
Moms Like Me, our annual event for raising awareness, lessening shame, and creating connection for families, is seeking storytellers for 2023. Selected storytellers will work together with local author and writing coach Molly Caro May to develop their stories and share publicly at our annual event. The process and act of sharing is monumental -- an essential part of being human. It not only benefits the storyteller, but alters everyone present.
The 2023 event will be held on Saturday May 13th at The Ellen in downtown Bozeman.
As an organization Roots Family Collaborative provides safe and equitable space for all parents to feel included. This is also true for Moms Like Me. We respect that every individual has come to parenting in a unique way, everybody has a story to share, and every story is worth sharing. Every year Moms Like Me attracts more applicants than available storyteller spots. We understand the vulnerability it takes for you to share your story with us, with the potential of not being selected for the 2023 event. We see you and we appreciate your willingness to share anyway. We offer the following list of suggestions to help guide your decision to apply.

Please read the following guidelines and suggestions BEFORE completing your application:
- We typically select storytellers whose child(ren) are at least one year old. We want to ensure the experience is as powerful as possible, and we believe that happens when storytellers have at least one year of time and space from their birth. We know the energy required for infants, so if your babe is one or younger, please apply next year!
- Stories that involve safety or legal challenges for you and your family are a challenge on the big stage. If this is part of your story, please consider sharing another aspect of your story at Moms Like Me. We understand that this may be something you want to work through, and suggest that you come to one of our confidential groups, such as Re:born or Blossom Mom.
- If your motivation to apply is because of the opportunity to work with Molly May, we understand. She is an incredible storytelling coach! However, Moms Like Me storytellers are motivated by creating and sharing their story on the big stage, in a public setting.
- Molly offers other ways for you to write and work through your story. Please visit her website at https://www.mollycaromay.com/ to view her ever changing schedule of workshops, multi-week courses, and long term monthly and weekly material.
- There is a significant time commitment involved with being a storyteller. If you feel your schedule may not accommodate the commitment, we would love for you to apply when it may work better. If selected, we ask that you attend all of the following:
- Regularly scheduled storyteller meetings (typically monthly, January-April)
- February Moms Like Me planning committee meeting
- A tech rehearsal one or two days prior to the event
- A final dress rehearsal and day-of participation on the day of the event (usually 12pm-9pm, day of)
If you have read the guidelines and aren't feeling 100% sure about applying to be a storyteller at Moms Like Me this year, please consider these other fabulous ways to share and receive support at Roots!
- Re:born is a more intimate and less formal setting to share your story
- Support groups for moms including Blossom Mom, Feeding Support Circle, and Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group
- Join the Moms Like Me Planning Committee (or consider other committees to share your time with Roots)
- Day-of event support at The Ellen, working with the Planning Committee
