As a new or expectant father, daily life with the family can be a balancing act of figuring out when to help or fix versus when to listen or be quiet. In the process, it is common to feel stressed, off-balance and even confused about how to relate to your partner, your child, day-to-day household logistics, finances, and, oh yes, baby gear. This support group for new and expecting dads is a counselor-led support group that will give you a chance to take a breath, be real, and deal with things head on. Along the way, we will work on parenting, relationship, and communication skills while addressing challenges such as:
- I want to help but don't know how
- I can't tell when to "fix" things and when not to.
- I feel distant from my partner or even blocked out
- I'm not even sure how to feel!
- This isn't what I thought it would be.
- I feel uncertainty about the future ($$).
Dads Group is facilitated by Ian Anderson, a marriage and family counselor in Bozeman who has also been married for eighteen years, navigated two pregnancies and births, and experienced life in the trenches as a stay-at-home dad. He is particularly interested in helping families and couples to develop mutual understanding and deepening connections via improved relational tools such as emotional intelligence and communication skills.
