THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL!
Seasonal transitions are the times of the year when we are most susceptible to illness, anxiety and depression. This unique and nourishing workshop will help us prepare by setting intentions for the season ahead and having practical tools to turn to when we are thirsty for nourishment and deep support.
Join Jess Cartwright and Roots in supporting yourself through the transition into fall. This is a time that can be so comforting and cozy, but can also bring up anxiety and overwhelm. In this workshop we will learn how to support ourselves through the tools of Ayurveda, to stay grounded, supported, nourished and intentional during this seasonal shift.
As a mini retreat, we’ll start with a sacred Guatemalan cacao ceremony for its heart medicine, womb healing, and deliciousness. This will also incorporate a grounding meditation to feel settled and relaxed, then get to know each other. We’ll discuss how we can use Ayurveda (the sister science to yoga) to feel deeply supported (and boost our immune system!) as we transition into the colder months.
Next, we’ll practice a yummy yin yoga sequence with poses that will help us feel aligned and anchored, connected and at home in our bodies. Jess will offer hands on healing touch for those who are interested.
Lastly, we’ll partake in an intention setting and mini fire ceremony, to release the old and welcome in the new of the season. There will be time for journaling and reflecting.
You’ll come away with:
● a guided meditation, downloadable to your phone, focused on feeling grounded and connected to your intentions, and feeling your best
● a short series of yoga poses for you to do at home, that are especially beneficial to do during the fall months
● a new awareness of how Ayurveda can support you throughout the fall months and keep your immune system boosted
● a sense of groundedness, release, inspiration, and relaxation!
● a deeper sense of community with rad women!
Investment: $75

This class is taught by Elysa White. Her experience and practice are a combination of several different, yet complimentary modalities that she interweaves to offer holistic support for the birthing person, their partners, and family. She is currently earning her master’s in clinical social work. Elysa has been teaching yoga for a decade, and is a Somatic Experiencing practitioner (SEP).
As a mother, who was pregnant and gave birth at the height of the global pandemic, Elysa personally knows the uncertainty and stresses of stepping into parenthood – the unknown of labor and delivery and the difficulties and tenderness of postpartum. She did not have a lot of resources available to her due to shutdown and doesn't want anyone to have to go through a similar experience. This is a very special, yet challenging time in life and a time when extra support is greatly needed. Elysa is thrilled to be partnering with Roots Family Collaborative to make sure that support and care for individuals and families is accessible for all!

Dearest Mama,
Becoming pregnant changes you. Having a baby changes you. How could it not? It changes your relationship to yourself, your friends, your partner, your body and the world around you. In some ways, you may not relate to the woman you used to be and often you end up feeling isolated, depleted and stressed. The amazing thing about becoming a mother is that you are not who you used to be, you are so much more.

Oula is for everyone and merges a cardio workout with easy-to-follow choreography, mindfulness practices, and a culture of inclusivity — all to an energetic pop soundtrack. Each class is 60 minutes. Every Oula class empowers participants to challenge their bodies and process their emotions through music, movement, and, most importantly, a community connection. We think you will LOVE it!
Oula at Roots will be taught by Meghan Womack. Meghan is a local mom of a magical little girl name Charlotte. Meghan is also a registered dietitian in private practice, specializing in helping people heal their troubled relationship with food and their bodies. She enjoys being in the woods, looking at trees and plants, hiking with her dogs, being by the river. As an OULA instructor, Meghan enjoys leading others in the joy of dance. She encourages all of her participants to not take themselves too seriously and to simply experience how music makes our bodies move. |

Managing Stress and Anxiety in Motherhood: A Workshop with Lexi Newhall, LCPC, MFT
Thursday, April 29 4:30 - 6 PM Zoom FREE Space is limited. Advanced registration REQUIRED As an expecting or new mother there are a lot of unknowns happening as you prepare to welcome your baby or adjust to life with a little one. Combine that with the fact that we are all beginning to emerge from the isolation of a global pandemic. It's overwhelming. We know that overwhelm leads to panic, panic leads to fear, and fear leads to anxiety. In the last few months, the collective cry for support has been increasing and we are listening. Our work at Roots is to connect mothers and families to the support they need, and right now, mothers need support more than ever. Together with Lexi Newhall, we are hosting a ninety minute workshop on how to use somatic tools to help you manage your anxiety and stress. Lexi will teach you how to use your senses to orient and how to provide self-touch and movement in order to help ground down. She will also help to identify the best resources for you to call on when you're starting to feel like it's all too much. Due to high demand, we will be offering this first workshop for free and it will be limited to 10 moms. To register, please send an email to hello@rootsfamilycollaborative.com. It will fill quickly so please email today if you are interested. It will not be recorded. Once registered, you will receive an email from us with more details and the Zoom link. |

This one of a kind transformational weekend experience combining storytelling and free-writing to make meaning of the postpartum period with local author Molly Caro May will be hosted in Bozeman, Montana, November 1-3. Space is limited to 10 women.
Mothers often say, “I wish I’d written it down.” By it, they mean all the wild and creative things their children do and say out loud. How about what a mother is experiencing in her interior world—whether she is a new mother or a seasoned mother? This is a transformational workshop for writing that down and making meaning of the postpartum time. We will use the ancient art of storytelling and the tool of free-writing to take a deep dive into what happened for you and is happening for you as you navigate motherhood. You are going through a physical and emotional experience. The act of putting pen to paper, however, does more than document. It can change/expand/elevate your outlook. We will come together to explore the old narratives we hold onto, what our family believes about pregnancy and birth and postpartum, our relationship to body before and during and after this radical time of change, the story we want to tell our child, the story we don’t want to tell our child, and our own creation myth as told to us by our parents. You excavate what has been joyful and hard, who you hoped to be as a mother and who you are as a mother and who you will be as a mother, your fears about all of it, what this has been like with or without a partner, and who exactly is the authentic you and what does her voice sound like. By the end of our time together, your notebook will be full and your postpartum story will be your ally. You need not be a “writer.”
Women at any stage postpartum are encouraged to attend. You need not be a writer. Space is limited to 10 participants.
Weekend Workshop Commitment:
Friday 6-9 PM
Saturday 9-4 PM
Sunday 9-12
$200 investment for the weekend.*
Scholarship funds will be available.
*50% of workshop investment will be required upon registration. The remainder will be due on or before October 25, 2019. Cancellations made 30 days prior to the event date, or by October 1, will receive a full refund. Cancellations made after October 1 will receive a partial refund.

Community Meditation Meeting

Many of us spend our days trying to survive. We try to be nice to others, get sleep, pay the bills, walk the dog, cook dinner, do laundry, clean the house, talk to our spouse (occasionally) and maybe take a shower. It can be a BIT overwhelming.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could take time out, reduce stress and anxiety, and find a better way together? Now we can! Roots and Mountain Yoga are collaborating to launch a Community Meditation Meeting at Mountain Yoga every Sunday from 3-5pm, starting Sunday January 14.
The Community Meditation Meeting is family friendly as there WILL be childcare available. Please join the leaders from the Bozeman Dharma Center as they guide formal meditations for both children and parents. Dharma talks, mindful parenting tips and discussion to follow each week.
For more information, find The Community Meditation Meeting on Facebook here.

Mindful Mamas is extending -- mark your calendars!
Dearest Mama,
Motherhood has changed you. How could it not? Having (a) child/ren changes your relationship to yourself, your friends, your partner, your body and the world around you. In some ways, you may not relate to the woman you used to be and often you end up feeling isolated, depleted and stressed. The amazing thing about motherhood is that you are not who you used to be, you are so much more.
Mindful Mamas aims to help you integrate your 'old' self with your 'new' self. In this two hour workshop you will have the chance to talk with other moms, laugh about your kids, your partner (even though we all know you love them) and even do some yoga. We will explore emotions through the body and movement using mindfulness practices and movement.
To do this we will:
This workshop will be facilitated by psychotherapist and fellow mom, Lexi Newhall, MA, MFT, LCPC. Lexi specializes in working with women of all ages and holds a special place in her heart for working with moms and moms to be. Lexi practices a style of mindfulness, body oriented therapy called the Hakomi Method. Lexi is particularly excited about 'Mindful Mamas' because it will enable you connect with other moms and bring the wisdom of this workshop into your daily life.
