Join the Dads Support Group for help navigating the challenges of parenthood

Becoming a father is a major life transition and can bring with it a host of unfamiliar experiences and emotions — loss of identity, loss of connection with your partner, financial stress, recreational stress, social stress, and more. At Roots, we know that parenting is hard.  And we know that parenting without community is even harder. Dads Group is here for you. Come join us.

Please respect our space and other families by honoring our illness policy; please do not coming if you or your baby are feeling sick or are still contagious.

What to expect at Dads Group

Dads Group is a peer-to-peer support group for new and expecting dads which meets once per month. As a new or expectant father, the normal rhythms of daily life may feel like they have been completely flipped upside down, and it is normal for new and expecting dads to feel a range of emotions while learning the ropes of this new role. Dads need spaces to feel seen and heard and Dads Group does just that. Some topics that often come up at Dads Group:

  • I want to help but don't know how

  • I can't tell when to "fix" things and when not to

  • I feel distant from my partner or even blocked out

  • I'm not even sure how to feel!

  • This isn't what I thought it would be

  • I feel uncertainty about the future ($$)

Meet the facilitator

Steve Bretson

Steve originally found Roots after attending Moms Like Me with his wife a few years ago. Even though the event was more geared towards moms, he loved that there were other dads there and appreciated that a space like this existed for parents.

Steve hasn’t had an easy time with my new identity as a father. It’s a high contrast to the one that played in the mountains everyday for his entire adult life. Roots and this Dads Group has allowed him to meet other dads, share in the beauty of parenting, and also commiserate about the hardships.
